Mobile Mechanic

Job Description and Duties

 

Job Description:

The Mobile Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing medium/heavy duty company construction equipment in multiple job site locations (primary service locations are to be determined by the shop manager).

 

Mobile Mechanic Job Duties:

 

  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.

  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.

  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects.

  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.

  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.

  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.

  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.

  • Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records.

  • Read and understand operating manuals and technical drawings.

  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

  • Assemble gear systems, and align frames and gears.

  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.

  • Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.

  • Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.

  • Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.

  • Adjust and maintain industrial machinery, using control and regulating devices.

  • Fabricate needed parts or items from sheet metal.

  • Direct workers who are assembling or disassembling equipment or cleaning parts.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

 

  • High School or GED as well as sufficient training or experience

  • College, trade school, or military training degree

  • Five years hands on experience as an equipment mechanic

 

  • Well versed in all preventative, predictive, routine, non-routine and emergency maintenance tasks associated with light, medium, and heavy equipment primarily powered by diesel engines and auxiliary equipment i.e. rollers, milling machines, mixers, backhoes, trackhoes and asphalt paving equipment.

  • Must be able to work in an unsupervised environment and still meet all goals assigned by the shop manager.

  • Class C drivers License

  • Clean driving record preferred (disqualification: three (3) or more moving violations, DUI/DWI in last 5 years or two DUI/DWI in last 10 years).

  • Must have the ability to work as part of a high-performance team or as an individual contributor.

  • Basic Microsoft Office knowledge.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to travel, work nights, willingness to work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed.

  • Prior experience as a mobile mechanic is a plus.
